Interview With Nikhil Shrivastava

Nikhil Shrivastava was born in New Delhi, India, and completed his degree from the University of Delhi. Incapability of understanding the normal pursuit of life made him search his own version of the truth. From past three years, he has been working as a professional content writer for national and international clients. Debut novel of this left-handed author, ‘Because You Need This’ has been out for a while and reaching the audience from different nation and religion. He took more than two years to write his debut book. He’s working on a different writing assignment these days.

Chit Chat Session

• Starting with this chit chat session, I would like you to introduce our readers to your first book, “because you need this”.

Ans. If you look around, you will find out that everyone is running in a rat race. All they ever want is a right partner, stable career and recognition from their peer groups, and yeah from our so-called society, but I think we have forgotten something and it’s even becoming worse day by day. It’s good to make advancements, but it’s  essential to look for our inner happiness, peace and satisfaction. Love, relationships, success, failures, busyness, death, investment, all the issues are still the same but what we all need is a different perspective. To curb this rat race and win over everything, you need to think a little differently, and that’s what “because you need this” will help you in. It’s a life-changing guide by a left-handed author who once saw everything differently so that you can live a life you are truly proud of.

What made you write this book and why you titled it as “because you need this”?

Ans. While growing up, I was always confused. I had a lot of different questions about success, relationships, money making, time management, failures, perspective and more but no answers to them. I was so curious about them, I tried searching everywhere, but I couldn’t find a thing. Then I grew up with the support of many wise people and got my answers from different places, people and experiences. Sometimes people came forward and solved my queries, and sometimes I learnt them from my experiences. And then I thought about millions of people who are just like me, passionate but confused, excited but a sceptic. For a moment, I stopped everything I was doing and decided to share what I have learned. After all, someone has to come forward with answers, why not me? And I choose this title- “Because you need this” because they needed it. We all need a different method of living before we all turn into living robots. This book will tell you all that you need to know at this moment.

• When did you first realize, you wanted to be a writer?

Ans. It started long back when I first decided to be friend with a dairy. Back in high school, I started writing journal where I used to mention whatever I go through. Later, I began writing instances and experiences that happened in my life, or how I imagine them, and then I shared my stories with my loved ones, and I loved their response. You remember the feeling people got when they first fall in love, something similar happened to me when I first sat to write out my heart. It’s the butterflies, the happiness, the sudden adrenaline rush, everything happened at once, and that day, I found out that I have discovered the love of my life. Since then I never looked back, whenever there’s a moment where my heart is touched, there’s a pen and paper ready to jot it down. I think writing gives us the ability to time travel, which makes life even more interesting.

• How long it took you to write “Because You Need This”?

Ans. Because the book is inspired by my real-life experiences and the perspective that I have encountered, I took me more than a while, to sum up, the same. I was always governed by the idea of giving more than one can have for his own. So, as I went through these experiences, I jotted them down simultaneously. And all that took me about a time span of 2 years.

• What is the next project you’re working on?

Now, that I have launched Because you need this and Dekho Kuch Aise Bhi, its time to take a while and improve my inner being. I am working on a lot of different projects, but it is too early to speak about them. I will disclose everything when the time is right.

• What does your family think of your writing?

Ans. No matter how creative or unique our goals and vision are, the society we live in work differently. Even in the 21st century, most people still believe in the monotonous move-with-the-flow mentality. They don’t want to be different. People like watching movies and film stars, but don’t want to become one, because they know it’s hard and challenging. Undeniably, they weren’t so easy for me in the beginning, and my parents were also worried about me. But they supported me throughout the journey. I am so blessed to have such loving and supporting parents. They saw the passion in me to move forward & always shown their trust in me. The day I have given my book to my mother, she got overwhelmed. She finished all the home tasks with priority, and dive in the book. She read as if I have written the words by God. The completed whole of the book in one go, and then she came to me, hugged me and said, “I am proud to have you as a son.” And trust me, that was the highest reward ever.

• What advice would you like to give to our aspiring writers?

Ans. My advice for every person out there is NEGATIVE. I have to positive words to give today; rather I am going to say, “Don’t do what you are going to do. Don’t say what you feel like, and don’t walk on the path you are dying to walk upon. Why? Because everything has consequences, every single action of yours, every word you utter, and everything you create, so don’t do it if you are afraid of what people think or society. But DO IT if you are not, DO IT if you don’t care, and DO IT without wasting a sec if you are ready to face what should offer. Life is about taking responsibility for your actions and doing your things; there will always be people who dislike you, demotivate you, or get offensive due to your efforts. Don’t think much about them, or you will find out that you have spent your life living up to their false expectations. Live it for yourself. Do it for yourself.
