(Hour + Minutes)<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>6:25 &#8211; It&#8217;s six twenty-five<\/li>\n<li>8:05 &#8211; It&#8217;s eight O-five (the O is said like the letter O)<\/li>\n<li>9:11 &#8211; It&#8217;s nine eleven<\/li>\n<li>2:34 &#8211; It&#8217;s two thirty-four<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>2) Say the minutes first and then the hour.\u00a0 (Minutes + PAST \/ TO + Hour)<\/b><\/p>\n<p>For minutes 1-30 we use <b>PAST<\/b> after the minutes.<\/p>\n<p>For minutes 31-59 we use <b>TO<\/b> after the minutes.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2:35 &#8211; It&#8217;s twenty-five <b>to<\/b> three<\/li>\n<li>11:20 &#8211; It&#8217;s twenty <b>past<\/b> eleven<\/li>\n<li>4:18 &#8211; It&#8217;s eighteen <b>past<\/b> four<\/li>\n<li>8:51 &#8211; It&#8217;s nine <b>to<\/b> nine<\/li>\n<li>2:59 &#8211; It&#8217;s one <b>to<\/b> three<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When it is <b>15 minutes past<\/b> the hour we normally say: (<b>a) quarter past<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>7:15 &#8211; It&#8217;s (a) quarter past seven<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When it is <b>15 minutes before<\/b> the hour we normally say: <b>a quarter to<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>12:45 &#8211; It&#8217;s (a) quarter to one<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When it is <b>30 minutes past<\/b> the hour we normally say: <b>half past<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>3:30 &#8211; It&#8217;s half past three (but we can also say three-thirty)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0099ff;\">O&#8217;clock<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>We use <b>o&#8217;clock<\/b> when there are NO minutes.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>10:00 &#8211; It&#8217;s ten o&#8217;clock<\/li>\n<li>5:00 &#8211; It&#8217;s five o&#8217;clock<\/li>\n<li>1:00 &#8211; It&#8217;s one o&#8217;clock<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sometimes it is written as 9 o&#8217;clock (the number + o&#8217;clock)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0099ff;\">12:00<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>For 12:00 there are four expressions in English.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>twelve o&#8217;clock<\/li>\n<li>midday = noon<\/li>\n<li>midnight<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0099ff;\">Asking for the Time<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The common question forms we use to ask for the time <i>right now <\/i>are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What time is it?<\/li>\n<li>What is the time?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A more polite way to ask for the time, especially from a stranger is:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Could you tell me the time please?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The common question forms we use to ask at what time a specific event will happen are:<\/p>\n<p>What time&#8230;?<\/p>\n<p>When&#8230;?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What time does the flight to New York leave?<\/li>\n<li>When does the bus arrive from London?<\/li>\n<li>When does the concert begin?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0099ff;\">Giving the Time<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>We use <b>It is<\/b> or <b>It&#8217;s<\/b> to respond to the questions that ask for the time <i>right now<\/i>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>It is<\/b> half past five (5:30).<\/li>\n<li><b>It&#8217;s<\/b> ten to twelve (11:50)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We use the structure <b>AT + time<\/b> when giving the time of a specific event.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The bus arrives <b>at<\/b> midday (12:00).<\/li>\n<li>The flight leaves <b>at<\/b> a quarter to two (1:45).<\/li>\n<li>The concert begins <b>at<\/b> ten o&#8217;clock. (10:00)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We can also use subject pronouns in these responses.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It arrives at midday (12:00).<\/li>\n<li>It leaves at a quarter to two (1:45).<\/li>\n<li>It begins at ten o&#8217;clock.
