It is used when the recipient is not addressed by name, as in a letter with a \u201cDear Sir\u201d salutation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yours truly<\/strong> is the American equivalent of \u201cyours faithfully\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0088ff;\">When you do know the name of the recipient.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Yours sincerely<\/strong> is also British.
