1. Overmorrow<\/span><\/h4>\n

\nThe day after or following tomorrow. Finally<\/em> someone found the word we\u2019ve all been looking for.<\/strong><\/p>\n

2. Ereyesterday<\/span><\/h4>\n

\nThe day before yesterday. Finally<\/em> someone found the\u00a0other\u00a0<\/em>word we\u2019ve all been looking for.<\/strong><\/p>\n

3. Defenestration<\/span><\/h4>\n

\nThe action of throwing someone out of a window; the action of dismissing someone from a position of power or authority. It\u2019s Latin and is devised by putting \u201cde-\u201d (down from) with \u201cfenestra\u201d (window).<\/strong><\/p>\n

4. Yerk<\/span><\/h4>\n

\nTo beat vigorously (think: thrash); to attack or excite vigorously (think: goad). It comes from a Middle English word that means \u201cto bind tightly.\u201d Yerk is also in the bottom 40% of word popularity. Poor yerk.<\/strong><\/p>\n

5. Meretricious<\/span><\/h4>\n

\u201cMeretricious can be traced back to the Latin verb\u00a0merere,\u00a0meaning \u2018to earn, gain, or deserve.\u2019 It shares this origin with a small group of other English words, including \u2018merit, meritorious, and emeritus.\u2019 But, while these words can suggest some degree of honor or esteem, \u2018meretricious\u2019 is used to suggest pretense, insincerity, and cheap or tawdry ornamentation.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

6. Proline<\/span><\/h4>\n

An alcohol-soluble amino acid occurring in high concentrations in collagen. Apparently, it\u2019s just an alteration of the word \u201cpyrrolidine.\u201d Pretending to be a scientist is fun.<\/strong><\/p>\n

7. Acosmism<\/span><\/h4>\n

\nA theory that denies the universe possesses any absolute reality or that it has any existence apart from God. It comes from the German word \u201cakomismus\u201d \u2014 which sounds way<\/em>\u00a0fancier, for the record.<\/strong><\/p>\n

8. Aubade<\/span><\/h4>\n

A song or poem greeting the dawn; a morning love song; a song of poem of lovers parting at dawn; morning music. It\u2019s a French word (shocker) that means \u201cdawn serenade.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cAs the relationship of \u2018aubade\u2019 with the English language grew, its meanings became a little more intimate. It blossomed into a word for a song or poem of lovers parting at dawn. Later it came to refer to songs sung in the morning hours.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

9. Dysthymia<\/span><\/h4>\n

\nA mood disorder characterized by chronic mildly depressed or irritable mood often accompanied by other symptoms; dysthymic disorder. With this new Latin word in your pocket, WebMD ain\u2019t got nothin\u2019 on you.<\/strong><\/p>\n

10. Gowpen<\/span><\/h4>\n

\nThe hollow of two hands held together as if forming a bowl. It\u2019s also important to know that a gowpenful means a double handful. This word will definitely come in\u00a0handy<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n
